Who is Victoria Martz?
I am a proud Hoosier with deep roots in Ripley County. I grew up between Milan and Batesville with my parents and five siblings, in a home shaped by Christian faith, close family ties, and a strong work ethic. Although my family spent brief periods living in other states, my sense of home was always in Indiana. I was homeschooled through eighth grade, an experience that blended academics with hands-on learning and responsibility. I learned early the value of perseverance by watching my father work two jobs and my mother keep a busy household running. Life on the family farm taught me practical skills and patience, from raising animals to growing crops like strawberries, tomatoes, potatoes, and peppers. Later, I transitioned into traditional schooling in Batesville, gaining a well-rounded education that combined classroom learning with the discipline and independence I had developed at home. These experiences instilled in me a deep respect for hard work, community, and the importance of looking out for one another.
My grandfather was a medical malpractice attorney who fought for ordinary individuals against powerful institutions. He inspired me to follow in his footsteps and choose a career in law. I earned my degree from IU Law School and passed the bar in 2019, beginning my work as a criminal defense attorney. Today, I represent both adults and young people, standing up for fairness and due process, and giving a voice to those who may otherwise go unheard. I believe strongly in equal justice and in the responsibility of the legal system to treat every person with dignity. I live in Batesville, where I am raising my young child and staying closely connected to the community I love. Whether at local markets, parks, or community events, I remain grounded in the values I learned growing up: service, compassion, and the belief that Indiana is strongest when its people look out for one another.
